Local history in every sip.

Des Moines’ original lager.

At the turn of the 20th century, Des Moines Brewing Co. crafted Old Tavern Beer—a beloved local lager known for its quality and crisp, easy-drinking character.

Brewed in the building now known as 300mlk in the heart of Des Moines, Old Tavern quickly became a staple libation across Iowa in the early 1900s—until the dry wind of Prohibition swept through, forcing the brewery to close its doors.

While the Old Tavern name changed hands a number of times over the following decades, its proud Iowan spirit was ultimately lost to time.

Until now.

Bringing Old Tavern back home isn’t just a nod to the past—it’s a way of bringing a piece of Des Moines brewing history into the present.

More than a revival, It’s a reunion.

Light. Local. Legendary.

A taste of the past, brewed for the present.

Light-bodied and crisp, Old Tavern is brewed with the same commitment to quality that made it a local favorite over a century ago. Still crafted with care, still poured with pride—and still, as the old ads once said, “Better than the average and as good as the best.”

Whether you’re a student of yesteryear or just looking for a smooth, refreshing beer, raise your glass and take a sip of history.

Old Tavern is proof that some classics never go out of style.
